The oldest known example of Irish art, the Spiral design found at the Newgrange tomb complex dates back over 5000 years. Thought to have at the time represented the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth, it’s believed that in later times it came to represent the Celtic Great Goddess and her threefold manifestation of Mother, Maiden, and Crone. To this day the Spiral design represents a connection to Ireland’s truly ancient past.
